Wow what a thought-would-be-terrible-but-actually-is-awesome idea that was! It was definitely above 50 degrees when I walked outside my apartment this morning and it didn't look rainy yet, so I figured I would drive to work with the top down today. Started out spectacular and a nice start to the morning. Then, it started raining! One would think this led to me on the side of the road quickly putting the top up before my car turned into a bathtub, but actually I continued onwards. The rain-x whisked the water off the windshield and as long as I was moving, I did not even get a droplet of water inside the car! Of course it was not downpouring or monsooning but it was still very much raining. Anyways, I learned today that driving my Miata in the rain with the top down is awesome. Now I am pumped up and ready to go for the day!
Jesus Christ, that front facia. It just makes it look so happy! It's because its the best!!
There, that's better!

Speaking from a British perspective, I advise you always keep a change of cloths in the boot (trunk) of your car to be on the safe side. There is invariably that bit of rain water that finds it's way down to the base of your back and soaks into the rear of your trousers, whilst initially the cold water isn't unpleasant, the warming of the water isn't and can be rather awkward to explain to others that you drove in the rain with the top down. Also should you hit a contraflow in traffic you will undoubtedly get soaked through. Take it from a guy who lives in one of the wettest parts of the U.K.

With an Alfa, you'd always go top down in the rain. Top up or top down, rain gets in the cabin. The only difference is how crazy other drivers think you are.

Oh god, I am imagining that now. A semi truck coming the other way and just launching a huge puddle across the car. It would be like standing at the end of the log flume at a theme park and just getting drenched. I always have my gym clothes with me so if I really got wet my workplace is generally casual enough that I could get by with that for a day lol.

Crazy is definitely an accurate description by other drivers! But I definitely have not smiled more on a ride to work haha. I imagine an Alfa needs the rain though to combat the constant fires, being Italian and all.

Had this happen in my TJ Wrangler. Went to pick up my son on a beautiful August afternoon from a summer football camp. Top and doors off. Great drive. Then a fast-moving thunderstorm blew threw. We sheltered in the gym until the worst of it passed. By the time my son and I got underway, the bottom of the Jeep was loaded with water, which would slosh forward and over my feet every time I braked.
Got it home, pulled the plugs, and wet vacced the carpets and seats. Good as new.

Oh yeah, that's how they sold 'em. It's a thin carpet that comes up very easily, but it's carpet.

I can personally attest to this. With the top UP, water would start dripping in from weird places and drive me insane. So I just said Fuck IT and went topless. Loved the looks I got form people. Oh, and this was in and around Seattle...
